Mr. Vander Roest is a registered Fire Protection Engineer with over 20 years of experience in fire protection design and building code consultation. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering with a cooperative education endorsement from the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland College Park. While attending college, Mr. Vander Roest was a resident firefighter/EMT at the College Park and Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Departments. As a part of his course of study, Mr. Vander Roest engaged in a cooperative education program providing him valuable experience in fire protection engineering through alternating college semester coursework and full-time employment with nationally recognized fire protection engineering firms.
Mr. Vander Roest began his career providing code consulting and fire protection design services for national and international projects. He then spent over ten years working in the federal government gaining experience in fire protection program management and construction management. With experience in a wide array of facilities within the built environment, Mr. Vander Roest has focused on the application of prescriptive and performance based solutions for conformance with nationally and internationally adopted codes and standards.
Mr. Vander Roest specializes in fire alarm systems, emergency communication/mass notification systems, medical facilities, fire protection system commissioning/testing, third party plan review, and life safety consulting. His responsibilities include the preparation of construction documents, specifications, and construction oversight of fire alarm systems for new, existing, and historic buildings preparation of feasibility/due diligence studies building code interpretations/variation request preparation and Third Party inspections of automatic fire detection and automatic sprinkler systems for the Metropolitan Washington, DC area.
